Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:
In the Gospel passage appointed for this weekend, Jesus speaks of his fidelity to us, the unity between Jesus and the Father, and of the unity between us and God through Jesus Christ. This relationship is grounded in love and freedom. Jesus never coerces us to be in relation with God. Thus, our response to God must spring from a place of love and freedom as it cannot be forced or conditioned.
This weekend, many of us are remembering and celebrating our mothers. Today’s Gospel reminds me of the strong bond between a mother and child. Thus, when I see mothers caring for their little ones, and grown-up children caring for their elderly parents, I am moved by the strong sense of love, fidelity, and unity.
Speaking of fidelity to the MHT organization: Margarita Hua is no longer a member of the parish staff. Nevertheless, the MHT Jesuits are grateful for her long commitment to Ignatian Spirituality. I have only known Margarita for less than a year, but in this short time, I noticed her strong support and passion for Ignatian Spiritualty. I hope that she will continue to ignite others with the Ignatian flame. This, and other staffing changes, have come about due to a realignment of staff positions. From now on, the Ignatian Spirituality Center is under the care of the MHT Jesuit community, with Fr. Marty as the point person. We will work on a plan to continue to offer Ignatian Spatiality, and this is not the only change in staffing. Sal Rojas has officially retired from his duties as a member of the staff, but he will continue to stay engaged with us in the music ministry. He too has been a faithful servant of MHT for a very long time. I jokingly like to say that he is a like living archive. I have great respect for him and his ministry, and also for his willingness to stay plugged to the music ministry at MHT. I realize that these staffing changes may bring a sense of sadness and disappointment for some of you, as they do for me. At the same time, I invite you to stay grounded in fidelity, unity, and love for the mission of Christ and of the parish community.
Fr. Elias Puentes, SJ
