Pastor’s Weekly Reflection

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:
You shall not molest or oppress an alien, wrong any widow or orphan. If ever you wrong them, I will surely hear their cry.
The book of Exodus presents us with a set of religious laws and social practices that prohibit the violation of human dignity and human rights. Jesus upholds this by telling us that the greatest commandment of love also prohibits the abuse and violation of human dignity. This is the reason why bishops and popes are vocal in denouncing legal or illegal practices that violate the dignity of all human beings, regardless of race, religion, status, or gender. Pope Leo XIV and the bishops have denounced the abuse that immigrants are presently suffering. This is also why Pope Leo denounced the legalization of euthanasia in his recent message to France.
In a society divided by hate and polarized over the protection of human dignity, may God give us the grace to uphold and defend the dignity of all and to live out God’s greatest commandment of love.
