Pastor’s Weekly Reflection

Dear Parishioners,

The theme of today’s Word of God encapsulates a principle of life that is both general and specific. That principle is summarized in Jesus’ words: “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.” The Jews had a lap that was like the hem of their robes, and when they fastened the lapels to their belts, they had a large bag that could hold a lot. Jesus made it clear that whoever gives a little will receive a lot in return. I call this practice the principle of divine grace.

In Buddhism, there is the law of cause and effect: what you sow, so shall you reap. The law of cause and effect emphasizes human justice: those who do good will reap good fruit; those who do evil will receive bad consequences. Everyone knows about the law of cause and effect, but we are still indignant when we see the deceitful and dishonest people everywhere, especially the Communist leaders who suck the blood of the poor and oppress religions while collecting millions for their families to live lavishly. But please rest assured. As ordinary people, we still know what is fair and just, so God, who is absolutely just and upright, will certainly carry out His justice.
