Dear Parishioners,
The most famous sculptor in the world is Micheangelo. Anyone who has been to Rome will see the statues of the Sorrowful Virgin Mary, Moses, and Saint Peter as masterpieces that cannot be missed. The bronze feet of Saint Peter have been touched by people for centuries, so much so that their feet are worn out. These statues are so lifelike that everyone admires and marvels at the unique genius of Micheangelo.
The more skillful and sophisticated a sculptor is, the more vivid and graceful the statue will be. Not only is the image vivid, but the spiritual essence of the sculpted character also radiates and touches the viewer. A statue starts out as a shapeless block of stone taken from the ground. And then with a rich imagination, skillful hands, and endless patience, a living person is formed. The wonder of a statue reflects the genius of the sculptor. Micheangelo’s creations are still praised and studied until the end of time.
Now let us look at our own statue in the mirror. We look at it countless times a day. What do we see? Is it lively and graceful or dull and lifeless? What kind of spirit is emanating from it? Looking at it, what do we think about the talent of the sculptor who created it?
Of all God’s creations, human is the most outstanding because we are the apex of creation. So why, when we look at ourselves in the mirror, do we not see vitality or ethereal essence? Has God...
