Pastor’s Weekly Reflection

Dear Parishioners,
In our Catholic tradition, there are two categories of sins: sins of commission and sins of omission. Sins of commission are those we are commanded by God not to do and we did, like the ten commandments. Sins of omission are those commanded by God to do but we don’t do them, like, do good things to others what you want to be done to you.
Unfortunately, in confession most people focus on the sins of commission, things that we should not do but did. And most people never consider the sins of omission, things we should do but didn’t. The parable of the fig tree addresses that category of sins of omission.

Second, you are lucky enough to have very successful children, who make tons of money. And when you invite them to your 25th wedding anniversary, they come to the party, but they bring no gifts whatsoever. How would you feel?
The greatest sin of omission is to do nothing with all that God has given to you. A fig tree is supposed to produce fruits after three years of planting. When the owner comes to claim his fruits, there is none.
