ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

Financial Management and Accounting

• Lead and manage all parish financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, reporting and financial controls in accordance with Diocese of San Jose Accounting Standards, and the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

• Prepare, administer, and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with the Pastor, and Finance Council.

• Create and maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure proper stewardship.

• Publish annual financial reports to include budget vs. actuals, for leadership and diocesan review.

• Main liaison contact with Diocesan Finance Office on approvals, reporting, and compliance.

• Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting to the Diocese.

• Oversee General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.

• Manage and coordinate parish audits, including planning and preparation, working directly with the Diocesan auditors, and implementing corrective actions and recommendations.

• Oversee compliance all applicable financial, tax, and diocesan regulations.

• Manage and oversee weekly collection count processes, donations, and restricted funds.

• Review invoices and reimbursement check request for accuracy and for correct expense code assignment.

• Create and manage Online Giving, ensure Online Funds are tied to accounting code revenue and restricted funds.

• Create monthly reports for the accountant: online contribution, credit card payments, square, and benefit matching contributions.

• Lead and coordinate stewardship initiatives, ADA Campaign, fundraising event, and development efforts.

• Prepare and submit grant applications to support parish programs initiatives.

Facilities & Risk Management

• Manage maintenance and operations of all parish facilities.

• Manage capital improvement, and repairs and maintenance plans

• Develop Scope of Works for all projects to ensure project delivery is on time, budget, and on scope.

• Initiate and manage request for Proposals on all major facilities project

• Contact and interface with independent contractors to ensure service meets expectations time, budget and scope.

• Ensure compliance with safety, insurance and risk management policies.

• Ensure that all buildings are in compliance with local regulatory agencies for annual safety inspections.

• Ensure monthly fire extinguishers inspections are conducted.

• Coordinate property, liability and worker’s compensation insurance.

• Oversee facility condition assessment and depreciation of assets.

• Maintain Parish Safety Hazardous Materials List.

Administrative and Parish Support

• Direct daily operations of the parish office.

• Manage and train all administrative staff and volunteers.

• Ensure all internal administrative processes are being followed for service offered.

• Monitor level of service the administrative staff provides to the community.

• Ensure Parish Bulletin and other communication are created and distributed/updated weekly.

• Handle problems and concerns regarding requirements, regulations and procedures for staff, parish group and parishioners.

• Ensure payments for mass intention, donations, and program fees are accounted for and securely deposited.

• Interface with IT support contractor for proper maintenance of the parish server and local equipment.

Human Resources

• Administrative staff oversight, including hiring coordination (Pastor retains authority), job posting, and position creation.

• Manage local Workday process daily and employee benefits and maintain confidentiality in all personnel matters.

• Monitor employee safe environment compliance.

• Oversee, initiate, process, and follow up Human Resources actions, to include write-ups, warnings, violations, performance improvement plans, suspension, and termination.

• Ensure compliance with Diocesan HR policies and employment regulations.

• Provide safety reminders and illness protocols for staff.

Education and/or Experience:

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

The summer break is rapidly coming to an end, and classes for MHT students have resumed. This is consoling to me because the school is one of our parish ministries that fills me with joy and hope. In the past twelve months, I have met a number of people who attended Holy Trinity School, and in my interactions with them, I can see the fruits of a Catholic education.

Speaking of coming to an end, I want to share that Mario Lucas informed me that he is leaving MHT to work in the Diocese of Oakland. While the news saddens me, I am glad for Mario because this is a new opportunity for him to share his gifts and talents. Seeking new opportunities in a different environment speaks to a person’s hope and desire for renewal. Mario has served us with generosity, respect, and dedication. For him, MHT is not the place where he comes to work, but rather the place where he comes to minister.

With respect to mission and ministry, you will start to hear more about Sowing Seeds of Faith. This is a diocesan-wide campaign. Thus, as a parish within the Diocese, MHT is very much part of the campaign. Our parish has been asked to consider a sacrificial gift of $1,606,379 over the next five years. This sum includes our parish commitment to the 2026 Annual Diocesan Appeal. Fifty percent of every dollar raised will remain at the parish, and the other fifty percent will be given to the Diocese for the Pastoral Plan. The percentage that remains at MHT will support the following ministries: youth, young adults, faith formation, and provide possible seed money for the installation of an HVAC system.

Just as Simon Peter was, we too have been entrusted with the keys to bring others into the mission and ministry of the Church. Sowing Seeds of Faith is very much about this. While there is a financial responsibility that comes with the Pastoral Plan, Sowing Seeds of Faith is not just about money. The plan also requires prayer, participation in Mass, time for formation and growth in faith and understanding, and volunteer service in ministry. The main purpose of the Pastoral Plan is spiritual renewal. Thus, I am grateful to those of you who are already participating in these activities and who are willing to do more by contributing to Sowing Seeds of Faith in different ways. Some of you have become ambassadors for the campaign. Besides making a financial contribution, the ambassadors will be visiting with some of you and asking you to consider supporting Sowing Seeds of Faith.

Gia đình Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi quý mến,

Mùa hè sắp kết thúc, và mùa học mới ở trường Chúa Ba Ngôi đã bắt đầu trở lại. Điều này làm tôi vui, vì một trong những công việc mục vụ của giáo xứ mang lại cho tôi niềm vui và hy vọng chính là trường học Chúa Ba Ngôi. Trong mười hai tháng qua, tôi đã gặp một số người từng theo học tại trường Chúa Ba Ngôi, và trong những lần gặp gỡ họ, tôi có thể thấy được nơi họ kết quả của một nền giáo dục Công giáo.

Nói về việc sắp kết thúc, tôi muốn chia sẻ rằng ông Mario Lucas đã thông báo với tôi rằng ông sẽ rời giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi để đến làm việc tại Giáo phận Oakland. Mặc dù tin này khiến tôi buồn, nhưng tôi vui cho ông Mario, vì đây là cơ hội mới để ông chia sẻ những món quà và tài năng Chúa ban cho ông. Tìm kiếm cơ hội mới trong một môi trường khác cho thấy ông là một con người đầy hy vọng và khao khát đổi mới. Ông Mario đã phục vụ giáo xứ chúng ta với lòng quảng đại, sự tôn trọng và tận tâm. Đối với ông, giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi không chỉ là nơi ông đến làm việc, mà còn là nơi ông đến để hoạt động mục vụ.

Nói về sứ mạng và mục vụ, quý ông bà anh chị em sẽ bắt đầu nghe nhiều hơn về cuộc vận động đóng góp Gieo Hạt Đức Tin (Sowing Seeds of Faith). Đây là một chiến dịch toàn giáo phận. Vì vậy, giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi chúng ta, với tư cách là thành viên của giáo phận, là một phần trong chiến dịch này. Giáo phận xin giáo xứ của chúng ta một món quà hy sinh trị giá 1.606.379 đô la trong 5 năm tới. Số tiền này bao gồm phần đóng góp của giáo xứ chúng ta cho ADA 2026. Phân nửa tổng số tiền mà chúng ta sẽ quyên góp được sẽ được giữ lại cho giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi chúng ta, và nửa còn lại sẽ được gửi về Giáo Phận để dùng cho Kế Hoạch Mục Vụ. Phần giữ lại cho giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi sẽ được dùng để hỗ trợ các mục vụ Thanh Thiếu Niên, Giới Trẻ, Đào Tạo Đức Tin, và có thể là tiền quỹ ban đầu cho việc lắp đặt hệ thống máy điều hòa không khí HVAC.

Thánh Phêrô được Chúa trao chìa khóa, chúng ta cũng được Chúa trao chìa khóa để đưa những anh chị em khác vào sứ mạng và công tác mục vụ của Giáo Hội. Gieo Hạt Đức Tin liên quan mật thiết đến điều này. Vì dù có trách nhiệm đóng góp tài chính đi kèm trong Kế Hoạch Mục Vụ, Gieo Hạt Đức Tin không chỉ là vấn đề tài chính. Kế Hoạch Mục vụ còn cần lời cầu nguyện, việc tham dự Thánh Lễ, việc dành thời gian học hỏi để chúng ta lớn lên trong đức tin, sự thấu hiểu, và phục vụ tình nguyện trong các hoạt động mục vụ. Mục đích chính của Kế Hoạch Mục Vụ là đổi mới tâm linh. Vì vậy, tôi biết ơn những quý ông bà anh chị em đã tham gia vào những hoạt động trên và sẵn sàng làm nhiều hơn nữa bằng cách đóng góp cho cuộc vận động Gieo Hạt Đức Tin qua nhiều cách khác nhau. Một số quý ông bà anh chị em đã tình nguyện trở thành những đại sứ cho chiến dịch Gieo Hạt Đức Tin. Ngoài việc đóng góp tài chính, các đại sứ sẽ đến thăm một số quý ông bà anh chị em giáo dân trong giáo xứ, để xin quý ông bà anh chị em cân nhắc việc ủng hộ chương trình Gieo Hạt Đức Tin.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

“It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”

This was Jesus’ reply to the Canaanite woman asking Jesus to heal her daughter. In response to Jesus, the woman said, “Please, Lord, even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.”

The words of Jesus seem harsh and unnecessary, and the woman’s statement is bold and convincing. In the narrative, one can find a struggle for power, gender, culture, and race. This, of course, is one of the many interpretations of the text.

However, the verbal exchange between the woman and Jesus is also an example of dialogue, humility, inclusion, and the transformation of hearts. That is because Jesus’ heart, as well as the heart of the woman, is transformed. Today’s Gospel narrative can be helpful to us at MHT because, in a community as culturally and racially diverse as ours, we too can have negative views of each other and use derogatory terms to refer to those outside of our circle. We too can have a struggle for power and control.

Speaking of culture and spirituality, I commend and congratulate the Samahang Filipino Organization for their fifty years of existence and service.

May our MHT community be a place of faith for spiritual and cultural exchange, and also for the transformation of hearts and minds, because we all eat at the same banquet table and share the same Bread: The Body of Christ.

Gia đình Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi quý mến,

“Không nên lấy bánh dành cho con cái mà ném cho lũ chó con.”

Đó là lời đáp của Chúa Giêsu với người phụ nữ Canaan khi bà xin Người chữa lành cho con gái mình. Đáp lại Chúa Giêsu, bà thưa:“Thưa Ngài, đúng thế, nhưng mà lũ chó con cũng được ăn những mảnh vụn trên bàn chủ rơi xuống.”

Thoạt nghe, lời của Chúa Giêsu có vẻ gay gắt và không cần thiết, còn lời đáp của người phụ nữ thì mạnh mẽ và đầy sức thuyết phục. Trong trình thuật này, chúng ta có thể nhận ra sự giằng co về quyền lực, giới tính, văn hóa và chủng tộc. Dĩ nhiên, đó chỉ là một trong nhiều cách diễn giải đoạn Tin Mừng này.

Tuy nhiên, cuộc đối thoại giữa Chúa Giêsu và người phụ nữ cũng là một mẫu gương về đối thoại, khiêm nhường, bao dung và sự biến đổi của tâm hồn. Điều đó xảy ra vì trái tim của Chúa Giêsu cũng như trái tim của người phụ nữ đều được biến đổi. Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay cũng có thể là lời nhắn nhủ dành cho cộng đoàn

Chúa Ba Ngôi của chúng ta. Trong một cộng đoàn đa dạng về văn hóa và chủng tộc như giáo xứ chúng ta, đôi khi chúng ta cũng có thể mang những định kiến tiêu cực về nhau hoặc dùng những lời lẽ hạ thấp những người ngoài nhóm của mình. Chúng ta cũng có thể rơi vào những cuộc tranh giành quyền lực và sự kiểm soát.

Nói đến văn hóa và đời sống đức tin, tôi xin bày tỏ lòng trân trọng và chúc mừng Hội Samahang của cộng đoàn Phi Luật Tân nhân dịp kỷ niệm 50 năm sự hiện diện và phục vụ của hội.

Nguyện xin cộng đoàn Chúa Ba Ngôi của chúng ta luôn là nơi nuôi dưỡng đức tin, là nơi gặp gỡ để trao đổi và chia sẻ về đời sống thiêng liêng cũng như văn hóa, đồng thời là nơi biến đổi tâm hồn và trí lòng của mỗi người. Bởi lẽ, tất cả chúng ta đều cùng ngồi quanh một bàn tiệc và cùng chia sẻ một Tấm Bánh duy nhất là Mình Thánh Chúa Kitô.

First Communion (English)

Children preparing for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion attend class on Sundays from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

A parent formation class is held at the same time each week, and at least one parent or guardian is required to attend.

Domingos | 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Los niños que se preparan para recibir la Primera Reconciliación y la Primera Comunión asisten a clases los domingos de 9:00 a.m. a 10:30 a.m.

Classes do not meet every week. Once you register, you will receive the complete yearly calendar. There are no classes during holiday weeks and certain weeks when major Catholic feast days are observed.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:   

“Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” (Matt. 14:17) 

This is true of those of you supporting our parish community. You share your loaves and fish so that those who have less may have a portion. I recently spoke to two of our parishioners and their testimony moved me because they both shared that they could live with luxuries and comforts, but instead they prefer a modest lifestyle so that they can donate to the parish and to other charitable organizations. I am sure that their testimony is also the testimony of many at MHT. 

In the same spirit of sharing, we are excited to bring back the Festival on October 3 & 4, 2026 – our first parish festival since 2019! The theme of this year is Together in Faith, United in Mission. After the COVID pandemic, the transitions of clergy, and other changes, this is a great occasion to come together in mutual support to celebrate the heritage of our parish community.  

We invite every family to be part of this joyful celebration. All raffle proceeds will support the Vestibule Renovation and Restroom Expansion Project. The project was stalled for a while, but it has not been abandoned, and it continues to be a priority. As of now, new permits were resubmitted to the City for approval, but this process can take months.  

Thank you for being generous in the ways that you share your loaves and fish with others at MHT and beyond the parish community.

Kính gửi toàn thể cộng đoàn Dân Chúa tại Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi,

“Ở đây chúng con chỉ có vỏn vẹn năm chiếc bánh và hai con cá.” (Mt 14,17) 

Lời này gợi cho tôi nghĩ đến biết bao người đang nâng đỡ cộng đoàn giáo xứ chúng ta. Quý vị đã chia sẻ “những chiếc bánh và con cá” của mình để những người kém may mắn hơn cũng có được phần của họ. 

Gần đây, tôi có dịp trò chuyện với hai giáo dân trong giáo xứ và thật sự cảm động trước chứng từ của họ. Cả hai cho biết họ hoàn toàn có thể sống với nhiều tiện nghi và thoải mái hơn, nhưng đã chọn một lối sống giản dị để có thể đóng góp cho giáo xứ cũng như các tổ chức từ thiện. Tôi tin rằng chứng từ ấy cũng là tâm tình của rất nhiều người trong cộng đoàn Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi. 

Trong cùng một tinh thần chia sẻ ấy, chúng tôi rất vui mừng thông báo rằng Hội Chợ Giáo Xứ sẽ trở lại vào ngày 3 và 4 tháng 10 năm 2026, lần đầu tiên kể từ năm 2019. Chủ đề của Ngày Hội năm nay là: Hiệp Nhất Trong Đức Tin, Chung Tay Trong Sứ Vụ. 

Sau đại dịch COVID-19, cùng với những thay đổi về nhân sự mục vụ và nhiều chuyển biến khác trong đời sống giáo xứ, đây là dịp để chúng ta cùng nhau quy tụ, nâng đỡ lẫn nhau và tạ ơn Chúa vì những hồng ân Ngài đã ban cho cộng đoàn chúng ta. Đồng thời, đây cũng là cơ hội để chúng ta cùng nhau mừng vui và trân quý những truyền thống tốt đẹp của Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi. 

Chúng tôi thân ái mời gọi tất cả anh chị em cùng tham gia Hội Chợ Giáo Xứ. Toàn bộ lợi nhuận từ chương trình xổ số sẽ được dành để hỗ trợ Dự Án Cải Tạo Tiền Sảnh Thánh Đường và Mở Rộng Khu Vệ Sinh. Mặc dù dự án đã bị trì hoãn trong một thời gian, nhưng chưa bao giờ bị bỏ quên và vẫn là một ưu tiên quan trọng của giáo xứ. Hiện nay, hồ sơ xin phép mới đã được nộp lại cho Thành phố để chờ phê duyệt; tuy nhiên, tiến trình này có thể sẽ kéo dài thêm nhiều tháng. 

Xin chân thành cảm ơn sự quảng đại của quý vị trong những cách thức khác nhau mà quý vị đã chia sẻ “những chiếc bánh và con cá” của mình cho anh chị em tại Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi cũng như ngoài cộng đồng giáo xứ.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:   

This Friday, July 31st, is the celebration of the Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola. The three regularly scheduled Friday Masses will observe the Memorial of St. Ignatius. However, after the 8:00 am morning Mass, we will also gather for fellowship in the community room. Margarita Hua will join us for the celebration. This will be an occasion to thank her for her years of service at MHT. I hope you are free to join the celebration, and/or attend one of the Masses.

As I mentioned before, Fr. Marty Silva is now the lead person for Ignatian Spirituality. Fr. Marty is exploring different opportunities to share Ignatian Spirituality. Feel free to reach out to him with questions regarding the Ignatian Spirituality Center. If you are interested in Ignatian Spirituality and would like to be part of Fr. Marty’s team, please let him know.

Furthermore, we have hired Nicole Fader to lead the Spanish and English Religious Education Programs for Sacraments for children, youth and adults. Nicole is no stranger to the parish community. She is a longtime parishioner and alumna of Most Holy Trinity School, and she brings more than 10 years of experience in youth ministry, faith formation, and Catholic leadership. In addition to leading the religious education programs, I have asked her to begin developing a youth group for the non-Vietnamese community, since we already have leaders and programs in place for our Vietnamese youth. However, she needs time to grow into her role. Presently, we have two persons working in the same capacity: Nicole and Sr. Bernadette. While they serve the different needs of our communities, I have instructed them to work together as one team serving the parish.

Porty Nevarez has taken on the role of Business Manager. Things related to facilities, safety, grounds, equipment, vendors, volunteers, parish-wide events, and other duties are under his responsibility. Mario Lucas has reduced his workload and work schedule, but remains committed to the parish community. He oversees the finances of the parish, does the bookkeeping, accounting, and he assists me with other administrative matters.

Natalie To holds a part-time position. She is the Young Adult Coordinator. Her role is to serve the young adults of the parish and to grow the Young Adult Ministry. Natalie does not do this alone, as she also has the support of Fr. Marty. Please feel free to call/email any of the above staff members as you see the need to do so.

St. Ignatius often ended his letters to Jesuits who were going to the missions with the expression Ite, inflammate omnia – “Go, set the world on fire.” May our parish be infused with the same flame of love and passion for the mission of Christ.

Kính gửi toàn thể cộng đoàn Dân Chúa tại Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi,

Thứ Sáu tuần này, ngày 31 tháng 7, Giáo Hội mừng kính Thánh Inhã Loyola. Ba Thánh lễ thường lệ trong ngày sẽ cử hành lễ nhớ kính ngài. Sau Thánh lễ sáng lúc 8:00, chúng ta sẽ cùng nhau gặp gỡ và chia sẻ tình hiệp thông tại phòng sinh hoạt cộng đồng. Bà Margarita Hua cũng sẽ hiện diện trong buổi gặp mặt này. Đây là dịp để chúng ta bày tỏ lòng biết ơn đối với những năm tháng bà đã tận tụy phục vụ tại Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi. Tôi hy vọng quý vị có thể tham dự buổi gặp gỡ này và/hoặc tham dự một trong các Thánh lễ trong ngày.

Như tôi đã chia sẻ trước đây, Cha Marty Silva hiện là người phụ trách chính về Linh đạo Inhã. Cha Marty đang tìm kiếm và phát triển nhiều cơ hội khác nhau để giúp cộng đoàn hiểu biết và sống linh đạo này sâu sắc hơn. Nếu quý vị có bất kỳ thắc mắc nào liên quan đến Trung tâm Linh đạo Inhã, xin đừng ngần ngại liên hệ với ngài. Đồng thời, nếu quý vị quan tâm đến Linh đạo Inhã và muốn cộng tác trong nhóm phục vụ của Cha Marty, xin vui lòng cho ngài biết.

Ngoài ra, chúng tôi đã tuyển dụng cô Nicole Fader để phụ trách các chương trình Giáo dục Đức tin bằng tiếng Anh và tiếng Tây Ban Nha nhằm chuẩn bị lãnh nhận các Bí tích cho thiếu nhi, thanh thiếu niên và người lớn. Nicole không phải là người xa lạ với cộng đoàn giáo xứ. Cô là một giáo dân gắn bó lâu năm với Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi và cũng là cựu học sinh của Trường Chúa Ba Ngôi. Với hơn 10 năm kinh nghiệm trong lãnh vực mục vụ giới trẻ, đào tạo đức tin và lãnh đạo Công giáo, cô mang đến nhiều kinh nghiệm và nhiệt huyết cho sứ vụ mới này.

Ngoài việc điều hành các chương trình giáo lý, tôi cũng đã giao cho Nicole nhiệm vụ bắt đầu xây dựng chương trình sinh hoạt giới trẻ dành cho các cộng đoàn khác trong giáo xứ, vì hiện nay cộng đoàn Việt Nam đã có đội ngũ lãnh đạo cùng các chương trình mục vụ giới trẻ đang hoạt động hiệu quả. Tuy nhiên, cô cần thời gian để làm quen và phát triển trong vai trò mới.

Hiện tại, Nicole và Sơ Yến đang đảm nhận những trách vụ có nhiều điểm tương đồng. Mặc dù mỗi người phục vụ những nhu cầu riêng của các cộng đồng khác nhau, tôi đã đề nghị họ cộng tác chặt chẽ như một đội ngũ duy nhất nhằm phục vụ toàn thể giáo xứ cách hiệu quả và hài hòa hơn.

Ông Porty Nevarez hiện đảm nhiệm vai trò Quản lý Điều hành Giáo xứ (Business Manager). Ông chịu trách nhiệm giám sát các công việc liên quan đến cơ sở vật chất, an toàn, khuôn viên, trang thiết bị, các nhà cung cấp dịch vụ, tình nguyện viên, các sinh hoạt và sự kiện chung của giáo xứ, cùng nhiều lãnh vực khác.

Ông Mario Lucas đã giảm khối lượng và thời gian làm việc, nhưng vẫn tiếp tục gắn bó và phục vụ cộng đoàn giáo xứ. Ông tiếp tục phụ trách các công việc tài chính và kế toán của giáo xứ, đồng thời hỗ trợ tôi trong những công việc hành chính khác.

Cô Natalie To hiện đảm nhiệm vị trí bán thời gian với vai trò Điều phối viên Mục vụ Giới Trẻ (Young Adult Coordinator). Nhiệm vụ của cô là đồng hành với các bạn trẻ trưởng thành trong giáo xứ và phát triển mục vụ dành cho nhóm này. Natalie không thực hiện sứ vụ này một mình, nhưng còn có sự cộng tác và hỗ trợ của Cha Marty. Xin quý vị đừng ngần ngại liên lạc với bất kỳ nhân viên nào kể trên qua điện thoại hoặc email khi cần.

Thánh Inhã thường kết thúc các lá thư gửi đến các tu sĩ Dòng Tên lên đường truyền giáo bằng câu: Ite, inflammate omnia – “Hãy đi và làm cho cả thế giới bừng cháy.” Nguyện xin giáo xứ chúng ta cũng được thắp lên bởi ngọn lửa yêu mến và nhiệt thành ấy để trung thành thi hành sứ mạng của Đức Kitô.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:   

The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds is illustrative because both wheat and weeds tend to grow alongside one another. The weeds compete with the wheat for resources, trying to choke its growth.

The same is true in our personal lives. We try to do good work and live good lives. We also pray and receive Christ in the Sacraments, but does this mean that our lives are free of weeds? This answer is very personal, but the reality is that we are never free of weeds. There is always something ungodly competing for our attention and resources, trying to choke the good growing within us. Furthermore, many times, the weeds become difficult to recognize because they blend in with the wheat. Thus, let us ask for the grace to recognize and, to the best of our ability, root out the ungodly forces in our personal lives and in the lives of institutions. The good news, however, in today’s Gospel is that while there are powerful forces opposing the Kingdom of God, at the end of the day, God will root out all evil.

Speaking of wheat, I would like to thank those who began making pledges to the Sowing Seeds of Faith campaign. Eventually, by the end of November, all of us will have had an opportunity to make a pledge of some sort to the campaign in support of the pastoral priorities of our parish and Diocese.

And what about the Annual Diocesan Appeal? This year, the ADA is embedded into Sowing Seeds of Faith. There is a bucket for the ADA within the campaign for this year only. Next year, the ADA will return to its usual annual appeal. If you would like to donate now to the ADA – Sowing Seeds of Faith, please contact me or Mario Lucas, and we will be happy to help you. However, if you decide to wait, within the next couple of months, you will be directed on how to support Sowing Seeds of Faith and the ADA.

In the meantime, let us pray for a fruitful yield of Sowing Seeds of Faith.

Gia đình Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi Quý Mến,

Dụ ngôn về Cỏ Lùng và Lúa Mì mang tính minh họa sâu sắc vì cả lúa mì và cỏ lùng thường mọc xen lẫn nhau. Cỏ lùng tranh giành sự chú ý và các nguồn lực với lúa mì nhằm mục đích bóp nghẹt cây lúa.

Điều tương tự cũng diễn ra trong đời sống cá nhân của chúng ta. Chúng ta nỗ lực làm việc thiện và sống một cuộc đời tốt đẹp. Chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện và lãnh nhận Chúa Kitô qua các Bí tích, nhưng liệu điều đó có nghĩa là cuộc sống của chúng ta hoàn toàn sạch bóng cỏ lùng? Câu trả lời tùy thuộc vào mỗi cá nhân, nhưng thực tế là chúng ta không bao giờ hoàn toàn thoát khỏi cỏ lùng. Luôn luôn có những điều đi ngược lại ý Chúa tranh giành sự chú ý và nguồn lực của chúng ta, đồng thời cố gắng bóp nghẹt mầm thiện đang lớn lên trong tâm hồn. Hơn nữa, nhiều khi cỏ lùng trở nên khó nhận biết vì chúng trà trộn vào giữa đám lúa mì. Vì vậy, chúng ta hãy cầu xin ơn nhận biết và – trong khả năng có thể – nhổ bỏ những thế lực xấu xa khỏi đời sống cá nhân cũng như đời sống của các tổ chức. Tuy nhiên, tin vui trong bài Tin Mừng hôm nay là dù có những thế lực mạnh mẽ chống lại Nước Thiên Chúa, thì cuối cùng, chính Thiên Chúa sẽ nhổ bỏ mọi sự dữ.

Nhân nói về lúa mì, tôi muốn gửi lời cảm ơn đến những ai đã bắt đầu cam kết đóng góp cho chiến dịch “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin” (Sowing Seeds of Faith). Đến cuối tháng 11, tất cả chúng ta sẽ có cơ hội đưa ra cam kết đóng góp cho chiến dịch này nhằm hỗ trợ các ưu tiên mục vụ của giáo xứ và Giáo phận.

Còn về chương trình Quyên góp Thường niên của Giáo phận (ADA) thì sao? Năm nay, ADA được lồng ghép vào trong chiến dịch “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin”. Chỉ riêng trong năm nay, chiến dịch sẽ có một hạng mục dành riêng cho ADA. Sang năm, chương trình ADA sẽ trở lại hình thức quyên góp thông thường. Nếu quý vị muốn đóng góp ngay cho “ADA – Gieo Mầm Đức Tin“, xin vui lòng cho tôi hoặc anh Mario Lucas biết, chúng tôi sẽ hỗ trợ quý vị. Tuy nhiên, nếu quý vị quyết định chờ thêm một thời gian, thì trong vài tháng tới, quý vị sẽ được hướng dẫn cách thức ủng hộ cho cả “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin” và ADA.

Trong thời gian chờ đợi, chúng ta hãy cùng cầu nguyện để chiến dịch “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin” gặt hái được nhiều hoa trái tốt đẹp.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:   

This week we get to hear the Parable of the Sower who never seems to get tired of sowing seeds, even where the soil conditions for the seeds to grow and bear fruit are unfavorable.  This is an important fact to pay attention to because oftentimes, we only pay attention to the seeds which bear no fruit or to those which yield a hundred, sixty, or thirty-fold. While percentages are important to measure results, I would say that the parable is not only about percentages. In my opinion, it is also about the reality that Jesus sows tirelessly even in soil conditions that are unfavorable for a rich harvest.

This sense of hope, generosity, and persistence is important for us to remember because we often become disillusioned when we do not get the results that we want, or in a business model, we only sow for profit.

When reading the Parable of the Sower, it is important to look at the big picture of the parable, because when we do so, we notice that the Word of God bears fruit even when it is met with resistance. Thus, it is important to recall the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return until they have watered the earth, my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.”

I want to encourage us to continue to work together in sowing seeds of friendship, hope, and shared stewardship in our MHT parish community. I have been part of a committee working to bring back the parish festival which will take place the weekend of October 3^rd and 4^th. The theme of the festival will be Together in Faith – United in Mission. This event is our ground to sow seeds of friendship, hope, and shared stewardship at MHT.

Moreover, our Diocese is in a capital campaign of which every parish is a part. The Sowing Seeds of Faith campaign supports the Pastoral Plan of our Diocese and the pastoral priorities chosen by each parish community. Sowing Seeds of Faith has already begun for MHT. By the end of November, all of us will have had the opportunity to make a pledge in support of it. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA). This year, it is part of Sowing Seeds of Faith, and before November you will be directed as to how to make a contribution. In the meantime, let us be receptive to the Word of God as it speaks to us every day in both ordinary and extraordinary ways.

Gia đình Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi Quý Mến,

Tuần này, chúng ta được nghe Dụ ngôn Người gieo giống – người dường như không bao giờ biết mệt mỏi trong việc gieo hạt, ngay cả ở những nơi mà điều kiện đất đai không thuận lợi cho hạt giống nảy mầm và sinh hoa kết trái. Đây là một chi tiết quan trọng cần lưu tâm, bởi lẽ thường thì chúng ta chỉ chú ý đến những hạt giống không sinh hoa kết trái, hoặc những hạt mang lại kết quả gấp trăm, gấp sáu mươi hay gấp ba mươi lần. Mặc dù các con số rất quan trọng để đo lường kết quả, nhưng tôi cho rằng dụ ngôn này không chỉ nói về những con số đó. Theo tôi, dụ ngôn còn nói lên một thực tế là Chúa Giêsu vẫn không ngừng gieo hạt, ngay cả trên những mảnh đất không thuận lợi cho một vụ mùa bội thu.

Tinh thần hy vọng, sự hào phóng và lòng kiên trì này là điều quan trọng mà chúng ta cần ghi nhớ, bởi lẽ chúng ta thường dễ nản lòng khi không đạt được kết quả như mong đợi, hoặc, giống như trong kinh doanh, chúng ta chỉ chăm chăm gieo trồng vì mục đích lợi nhuận.

Khi đọc Dụ ngôn Người gieo giống, điều quan trọng là chúng ta cần phải nhìn vào bức tranh toàn cảnh của dụ ngôn, bởi lẽ khi làm vậy, ta nhận thấy rằng Lời Chúa vẫn sinh hoa kết trái ngay cả khi vấp phải sự chống đối. Do đó, thật cần thiết khi nhớ lại lời của ngôn sứ Isaia: “Cũng như mưa với tuyết sa xuống từ trời không trở về trời nếu chưa thấm xuống đất, chưa làm cho đất phì nhiêu và đâm chồi nảy lộc, cho kẻ gieo có hạt giống, cho người đói có bánh ăn, thì lời Ta cũng vậy, một khi xuất phát từ miệng Ta, sẽ không trở về với Ta nếu chưa đạt kết quả, chưa thực hiện ý muốn của Ta, chưa chu toàn sứ mạng Ta giao phó.”

Tôi mong muốn tất cả chúng ta tiếp tục chung tay gieo mầm tình bạn, niềm hy vọng và tinh thần cùng nhau vun đắp cộng đoàn giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi. Tôi đang cùng với ban tổ chức của giáo xứ chuẩn bị lễ hội giáo xứ (Parish Festival), dự kiến ​​sẽ diễn ra vào cuối tuần ngày 3 và 4 tháng 10. Chủ đề của lễ hội là “Hiệp nhất trong Đức tin – Đoàn kết trong Sứ vụ”. Sự kiện này chính là dịp để chúng ta gieo những hạt giống của tình bạn, niềm hy vọng và tinh thần cùng nhau vun đắp cộng đoàn giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi của chúng ta.

Ngoài ra, Giáo phận chúng ta đang thực hiện một chiến dịch gây quỹ mà mỗi giáo xứ đều tham gia. Chiến dịch “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin” (Sowing Seeds of Faith) hỗ trợ Kế hoạch Mục vụ của Giáo phận cũng như các ưu tiên mục vụ do từng cộng đoàn giáo xứ lựa chọn. Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi của chúng ta đã bắt đầu triển khai chiến dịch này. Đến cuối tháng 11, tất cả chúng ta sẽ có cơ hội đưa ra cam kết đóng góp để ủng hộ chiến dịch. Bên cạnh đó, quý ông bà anh chị em cũng sẽ có dịp đóng góp cho Chương trình Gây Quỹ Thường niên của Giáo phận (ADA). Năm nay, chương trình ADA sẽ là một phần trong chiến dịch “Gieo Mầm Đức Tin”, và trong khoảng thời gian sắp tới cho đến trước tháng 11, quý ông bà anh chị em  sẽ được hướng dẫn cụ thể về cách thức đóng góp. Trong thời gian chờ đợi, chúng ta hãy mở lòng đón nhận Lời Chúa, Đấng vẫn đang ngỏ lời với chúng ta mỗi ngày qua những cách thức bình thường cũng như phi thường.

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:   

This weekend we hear Jesus telling us:

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Jesus is not asking us to go on a cruise because life can be burdensome, although sometimes a cruise can offer us a respite from the demands and burdens placed on us. We should take time to rest, but Jesus is not referring here to physical rest.

He is telling us that when it comes to following him, Jesus does not place religious burdens on us as some of the Scribes and Pharisees did on other people.

Jesus, who is meek and humble of heart, invites us to learn from his meekness and humility.

Rest consists in being united with God in the way that we live our lives. This is what Jesus means when he invites us to take up his yoke.

May this summer offer us a respite from the busyness of life, and also be a time to take on the yoke of Christ.

Gia đình Giáo xứ Chúa Ba Ngôi Quý Mến,

Trong bài Tin Mừng cuối tuần này,  Chúa Giêsu nói với chúng ta rằng:

 “Tất cả những ai đang vất vả mang gánh nặng nề, hãy đến cùng tôi, tôi sẽ cho nghỉ ngơi bồi dưỡng.Anh em hãy mang lấy ách của tôi, và hãy học với tôi, vì tôi có lòng hiền hậu và khiêm nhường. Tâm hồn anh em sẽ được nghỉ ngơi bồi dưỡng. Vì ách tôi êm ái, và gánh tôi nhẹ nhàng.”

Chúa Giê-su không bảo chúng ta hãy đi du ngoạn trên biển vì cuộc sống có thể đầy gánh nặng, mặc dù đôi khi những chuyến đi như vậy có thể mang lại cho chúng ta sự nghỉ ngơi, giúp tạm lánh khỏi những đòi hỏi và gánh nặng đang đè nặng lên mình. Chúng ta cần dành thời gian để nghỉ ngơi, nhưng điều Chúa Giêsu đang nói đến ở đây không phải là sự nghỉ ngơi về mặt thể xác.

Ngài đang nói với chúng ta rằng, khi nói đến việc theo Ngài, Chúa Giê-su không đặt những gánh nặng tôn giáo lên vai chúng ta như cách một số kinh sư và người Pha-ri-si đã làm với người khác.

Chúa Giêsu, Đấng hiền lành và khiêm nhường trong lòng, mời gọi chúng ta học hỏi sự hiền lành và khiêm nhường nơi Ngài.

Sự nghỉ ngơi nằm ở việc hiệp nhất với Thiên Chúa trong cách chúng ta sống cuộc đời mình. Đó chính là điều Chúa Giêsu muốn nói khi Ngài mời gọi chúng ta mang lấy ách của Ngài.

Nguyện xin mùa hè này mang lại cho chúng ta sự nghỉ ngơi khỏi những bộn bề của cuộc sống, đồng thời cũng là dịp để chúng ta mang lấy ách của Chúa Kitô.
