Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is a day of remembrance and participation. We remember the passion and death of Jesus, and we participate in the very life of Christ. We eat His Flesh and drink His Blood. Through the Eucharist, we are nourished, strengthened, unified, and transformed. The Eucharist is not ordinary bread, even though ordinary ingredients are used in the preparation of the bread. In the Eucharist, we are united to Christ and to each other throughout the One Bread – the Body of Christ. Thus, when we receive Christ in the Eucharist, we should not neglect our brothers and sisters.

Oftentimes, people debate how to receive the Eucharist: either on the tongue, in the hand, kneeling, or standing. In the tradition of the Church, different gestures of receiving the Eucharist are acceptable. Unfortunately, sometimes we are more concerned about the body gestures for the reception of the Eucharist, and less concerned about being transformed by the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ.

Pastor

May 31, 2026

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

As a multi-cultural and multilingual community, my hope and vision for our parish is that we strive to emulate the Holy Trinity in all its oneness, diversity, beauty, and complexity. Our differences in culture and tradition are not barriers–they are gifts. They strengthen and inspire us to honor and respect one another and to grow in unity.

We are truly blessed to be a community of disciples from diverse nationalities and backgrounds who, gather together at Most Holy Trinity to celebrate the Eucharist and worship as one community each Sunday. Though we speak different languages and come with distinct customs, we are united by the Holy Spirit who binds us in love and purpose.

I invite and urge us to walk together – as one body, composed of many parts, as one Church enriched by diverse spiritual gifts, and as one community guided by that same Spirit.

In the Spirit of Synodality that Pope Francis rekindled in the Church – and which Pope Leo has embraced – let us move forward with open hearts, promoting genuine participation, shared responsibility, inclusion, and a deep communion rooted in faith.

As you know, our Diocese is in a Pastoral Plan for Spiritual Renewal. You might remember our pastoral priorities for the upcoming years: Formation, Youth and Young Adults, and in following good advice, I submitted an additional priority: Creating a Comfortable and Prayerful Worship Space: Upgrading Heating and Cooling. Furthermore, MHT is now in the initial stages of the second wave of Sowing Seeds of Faith. This is the Diocese-wide campaign to raise $62 million dollars in support of the Pastoral Plan for Spiritual Renewal. Within the next couple of months, I will be sharing more information regarding our financial commitment to it.

This year, MHT will not have a communal social celebration in honor of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity because we are planning for the Parish Festival on Oct. 3rd & 4th. In addition, we hope to have a multilingual Mass and social on July 31st to celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Fr. Elias Puentes, SJ

Pastor

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

In the Gospel passage appointed for this week, we hear how fear kept the disciples of Jesus behind locked doors. It was then that Jesus stood in their midst to break the barriers of fear.

Many of us still live in fear. People are afraid of being deported, of being rejected, of being discriminated against, and of being marginalized, and there are other well-founded fears that people have also experienced. In fearful circumstances, Jesus stands in our midst to break down the barriers of fear by breathing into us the Spirit of courage and peace.

Empowered by that same Spirit, we also need to stand alongside those who are locked behind closed doors due to their fear and say to them,

“Peace with you. You are not alone. I stand with you.” We have to trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to break down all barriers. We need the courage that comes from the Holy Spirit to stand together in unity and solidarity. We want and need a Church that challenges those in power who instill fear, just as Pope Leo XIV has done. We need a Church infused with a Spirit that no fear can quench.

May we, at MHT, be that church.

Fr. Elias Puentes, SJ

Pastor

May 10, 2026

Dear Most Holy Trinity Family:

In the Gospel passage appointed for this weekend, Jesus speaks of his fidelity to us, the unity between Jesus and the Father, and of the unity between us and God through Jesus Christ. This relationship is grounded in love and freedom. Jesus never coerces us to be in relation with God. Thus, our response to God must spring from a place of love and freedom as it cannot be forced or conditioned.

This weekend, many of us are remembering and celebrating our mothers. Today’s Gospel reminds me of the strong bond between a mother and child. Thus, when I see mothers caring for their little ones, and grown-up children caring for their elderly parents, I am moved by the strong sense of love, fidelity, and unity.

Speaking of fidelity to the MHT organization: Margarita Hua is no longer a member of the parish staff. Nevertheless, the MHT Jesuits are grateful for her long commitment to Ignatian Spirituality. I have only known Margarita for less than a year, but in this short time, I noticed her strong support and passion for Ignatian Spiritualty. I hope that she will continue to ignite others with the Ignatian flame. This, and other staffing changes, have come about due to a realignment of staff positions. From now on, the Ignatian Spirituality Center is under the care of the MHT Jesuit community, with Fr. Marty as the point person. We will work on a plan to continue to offer Ignatian Spatiality, and this is not the only change in staffing. Sal Rojas has officially retired from his duties as a member of the staff, but he will continue to stay engaged with us in the music ministry. He too has been a faithful servant of MHT for a very long time. I jokingly like to say that he is a like living archive. I have great respect for him and his ministry, and also for his willingness to stay plugged to the music ministry at MHT. I realize that these staffing changes may bring a sense of sadness and disappointment for some of you, as they do for me. At the same time, I invite you to stay grounded in fidelity, unity, and love for the mission of Christ and of the parish community.

Fr. Elias Puentes, SJ

Pastor
